MISSION STATEMENT

Why I Founded Lotus Trim and Functional Health

I’m starting a new chapter — one that’s incredibly personal and deeply meaningful to me.  After working many years in Orthopedics, I witnessed first hand, how excess weight can quietly impact joint health, mobility, and long-term quality of life. Over the years, I’ve dedicated myself as a competitive athlete, certified athletic trainer, orthopedic physician assistant, and lifelong fitness enthusiast. This has given me a deep understanding of how the body moves, heals, and breaks down under stress.

Most people know that being overweight comes with associated risks, like heart disease or diabetes — but what’s often overlooked is how hard it is on your joints. I’ve seen patients, sometimes in their 40s or 50s, needing hip and knee replacements — not because of injuries or age, but because their joints simply couldn’t keep up with the added strain.

 

Think of it this way: for every extra 10 pounds you carry, for every mile you walk, you place 48,000 extra pounds of pressure through your weight-bearing joints (hips, knees, ankles and spine).   What if you’re carrying 20, 30, or more extra pounds of weight or walking more than a mile a day (which most of us do)? That pressure adds up fast.

 

It’s not just about the extra weight causing wear-and-tear. Fat tissue isn’t just sitting there quietly — it’s active. Especially, abdominal fat (also called visceral fat). It releases chemicals that trigger low-grade inflammation throughout your body. Over time, this kind of inflammation can cause joint breakdown, stiffness and pain.  It can worsen conditions like:

    •    Osteoarthritis – Even in the hands, where weight isn’t a factor!

    •    Rheumatoid arthritis – Obesity can make symptoms worse and treatments less effective.

    •    Gout – More body fat means more uric acid and more flare-ups.

 

I’ve watched too many patients lose mobility, independence, and confidence. I’ve seen injuries that could have been prevented, surgeries that maybe didn’t need to happen so soon — or at all. Falls that turned into major fractures because the body simply couldn’t keep up anymore.

 

That’s why I founded Lotus Trim and Functional Health,  to help people get ahead or control these issues.  This isn’t just about weight loss. It’s about moving better, physically and emotionally feeling better and stronger, and protecting your body for the long haul — especially your joints.
